Since the first bowl

Our Story

East Legon, Accra

How it started

A noodle counter that outgrew its counter

Asian Noodle Garden began with one pot, one pair of hands, and a small counter off Bamboo Street. The idea was simple and stubborn: pull the noodles fresh every morning, simmer the broth for as long as it takes, and never send out a bowl you would not eat yourself.

Word travelled the way it does in East Legon — slowly at first, then all at once. Office lunches turned into evening tables. Evening tables turned into a queue on the pavement. So we took the space next door, opened up the back, and let the garden become the dining room.

Today the kitchen still starts before dawn with the same two jobs: the dough, and the broth. Everything else — the hot pot room, the dim sum steamers, the wok station — grew up around those two.

Seats in the garden

Asian Noodle Garden opened in 2016 as eight stools, one wok and a single broth on the stove. We served lunch only, and most days we sold out before two o'clock.

By 2018 there was no room left inside. We took the plot behind the kitchen, planted it out, strung lights through the trees and put thirty seats underneath them — and for the first time, started serving into the evening. The garden stopped being the back of the building and became the reason people came.

Hot pot arrived in 2020. Our chef had spent a season cooking in Chengdu and came back set on putting cook-at-table burners in the dining room. The split pot — mild on one side, mala on the other, for tables that cannot agree — has been on the menu ever since. A dedicated dumpling station followed in 2023, folded by hand each morning alongside the noodles, and weekend lunch has not been quiet since.

Today it is three rooms, one garden, and the same two jobs before dawn: the dough, and the broth. Everything else has grown up around those two.

Made the long way

Noodles pulled by hand each morning. Broth simmered overnight, never from a powder. Dumplings folded to order, not bought in frozen.

Cooked at your table

Hot pot is not a dish here, it is an evening. Choose your broth, build the pot as you go, and take as long as you like over it.

A garden, not a dining room

Open air, warm light and real trees, five minutes from the middle of East Legon. The coziness is half the reason people come back.

The Sichuan beef noodle soup is unlike anything I've had in Accra. Rich, spicy, deeply flavourful broth and the noodles are perfect. Not once have I been disappointed — the dishes always taste fresh and authentic.

The prices are as good as the menu! Each time I spend less money than anywhere else and for that value I always get a fresh, tasty Asian dinner. The hot pot experience is unmissable.

My friends who go there every week highly recommended this to me. Now I visit each day after work — it takes me 5 minutes to walk. But it's totally worth it! The Korean wings are incredible.

We booked the garden for my sister's birthday, twelve of us, and the team handled it beautifully. The split hot pot meant nobody had to argue about the chilli. Best evening we've had out this year.

Genuinely good dim sum in Accra, which I had almost given up on finding. The har gow are the real thing. It gets busy after seven on a Friday so call ahead, but that is my only complaint.

I bring every visitor here. The garden at night with the lights on is something else, and the staff remember what you ordered last time. That is rare anywhere, let alone in a restaurant this busy.
